Learn how toBusiness AnalystCreate a Question
Create a QuestionEvery decision in Learning Nodes starts with a Business Question. This guide walks you through creating your first question, from login to a defined BQ ready for analysis. Before You StartYou can use Learning Nodes in two modes:
  • Guest mode: Start immediately without logging in. Your questions are stored locally. You'll be prompted to migrate them when you log in.
  • Authenticated: Sign in to save questions to your workspace and collaborate with your team.
  • Step 1: Arrive at the Question FeedWhen you open the workstation, you land on the ASK tab — the Question Feed. This is your home base showing all your Business Questions. If you have existing questions, you'll see them as cards showing:
  • Question title (truncated if long)
  • Status badge (Draft, ASK Complete, etc.)
  • Constraint count
  • Last updated timestamp
  • Step 2: Start a New QuestionClick the primary CTA button ("New Question" or similar). The ASK canvas opens with a textarea for your question.Step 3: Write Your QuestionType your Business Question in plain language. Don't worry about perfection — you'll refine it with constraints.Example (Fintech Default Analysis):
"What is the difference in default rate between customers who miss their first payment vs customers who default later in the repayment cycle?"
    What Makes a Good Question?
  • Answerable: Can be resolved with evidence
  • Scoped: Not so broad that any answer is useless
  • Actionable: Answering it leads to a decision
  • Single-focused: One question (avoid "and" or "or")
  • Step 4: Advance to ConstraintsAfter typing your question, click to advance to the Constraints stage. This is where you define the guardrails that shape how the question gets answered. You'll see an empty constraint input ready for you. The placeholder text will guide you (e.g., "Something about this question to consider is...").Step 5: Add Your First ConstraintType your first constraint. Examples for the fintech question:
  • "Only include loans originated in the last 24 months"
  • "Focus on UK market only"
  • "Exclude refinanced accounts"
  • Press Enter or click "Add" to create the constraint. A new empty field appears automatically so you can keep adding.Step 6: Add More ConstraintsContinue adding constraints until you've captured all the guardrails. For the fintech example, we might add:
  • Timeframe: "Data from FY2025 only"
  • Segmentation: "Segment by product type: personal loan vs credit card"
  • Compliance: "Exclude GDPR-protected EU customers"
  • There's no "correct" number of constraints — only what's necessary to answer the question properly.Step 7: Complete ASKOnce you've written your question and added constraints, click "Complete ASK" (or equivalent button). What happens:
  • The question status changes to "ASK Complete"
  • You return to the Question Feed
  • The question appears in your feed with the new status
  • It will now appear in the DECIDE inbox ready for analysis
  • Next StepsYour question is now defined and ready for analysis. You can:
  • Add sources (CSV, text) to attach evidence — see Attach Sources
  • Move to DECIDE and start analysis — see Run Checks
  • Create another question while this one waits for data
  • Tips for Success
  • Start simple: Don't over-constrain on your first question. You can add more constraints in DECIDE if needed.
  • Use plain language: Constraints should be readable by any stakeholder, not just data experts.
  • Tag your question: If available, add domain tags (Product, Risk, Commercial) for organization.
  • Invite collaborators early: If others need to weigh in, add them as collaborators in ASK.
